Located approximately 9 kilometers from the center of Tokat, in the Gümenek area, the ancient city of Komana (Comana Pontica) was an important religious and commercial center in antiquity, dedicated to the Mother Goddess named "Ma". Founded on the banks of the Yeşilırmak River, this city experienced continuous settlement from the Hellenistic period to the Byzantine era. Religious Significance: In ancient times, the city, which held the status of a temple state, was one of the most important oracle centers in Anatolia. According to sources, there were more than 6,000 slaves serving in the temple.
