ANTANDROS ANCIENT CITY

According to some ancient writers, the founding of Antandros dates back to before the Trojan War. Academic excavations, which began with surface surveys in 2000, are now in their 15th year. Led by Prof. Dr. Gürcan POLAT, these excavations have continued for 15 years, focusing on two main sectors: the Hillside Houses and the Necropolis. Work has been carried out in many different areas to better understand the city's long history spanning centuries. Located on the Adramytteion (Burhaniye Ören) – Assos (Behramkale) road, the city is thought to have been founded in the 10th century BC. However, given the history of nearby Assos, which dates back to the 2nd millennium BC, it is possible that Antandros was also inhabited around that time.
