Overview

The Crown Prince's Apartments in Dolmabahçe Palace, which houses the National Palaces Painting Museum and is an architectural symbol of the transition of the princes from their secluded lives to a more free life after the declaration of the Tanzimat reforms, were built during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid. Sultan Abdülaziz, Sultan Murad V, Sultan Abdülhamid II, Sultan Mehmed V Reşad, Yusuf İzzettin Efendi, Sultan Mehmed VI, and Caliph Abdülmecid used these apartments during their time as Crown Princes. Following restoration work, a section of the Dolmabahçe Palace Crown Prince's Apartments was opened to the public as the National Palaces Painting Museum on March 22, 2014. The museum, which has attracted great interest from art lovers, is the only museum in Turkey that reflects the painting tastes of the late Ottoman palace and the formation and development of the first Western style painting collection in the country. Between March 2014 and March 2020, a total of 200 works from the National Palaces Painting Collection and the Topkapı Palace Museum Collection were exhibited in the museum.
