The Çavuşin Valley takes its name from the Çavuşin Village located in the region. Nestled among large rocks, the village boasts a rich history. Dating back to the 1st century, it was a region inhabited by Christian monks fleeing Roman attacks. To protect themselves from these attacks, they built living spaces inside the rocks. Due to the infertile soil, the inhabitants used pigeon droppings to fill the gaps in the chimneys. With the arrival of the Seljuks, Christianity was freely practiced, and Islam also took root in the region. Churches, monasteries, and mosques were built, laying the foundations for religious brotherhood. There are many religious structures in Çavuşin Village that you absolutely must visit. You should definitely see the Çavuşin Church, the Crusader Church, St. John's Church, the Three Crosses Church, and the Church of John the Baptist. These churches contain centuries old frescoes and depictions. Visiting these churches, which have a history spanning over a thousand years, will transport you to a different world.
