Resembling the silhouette of a shield shaped fish, the Diyarbakır Walls are considered one of the longest, widest, and strongest walls in the world after the Great Wall of China. While the exact date of construction is unknown, it is thought to date back to the Hurrian period between 3000 and 2500 BC. However, the walls acquired their present form in 349 AD during the reign of Roman Emperor Constantius II.
