Located between Diyarbakır Castle and the Tigris River valley, the Hevsel Gardens are a fertile area of approximately 700 hectares. This area, where agricultural production has taken place for thousands of years, is an important part of Diyarbakır's historical and cultural fabric. The proximity of the Hevsel Gardens to the Tigris River has allowed different civilizations to establish settlements and engage in agricultural activities here throughout history. The water resources and fertile soil in the region have made the Hevsel Gardens an important agricultural center for Diyarbakır. Archaeological excavations in the Hevsel Gardens show that the region has been used for agriculture since the Neolithic Age. Throughout history, various products such as wheat, barley, cotton, grapes, watermelons, and melons have been cultivated in this fertile land.
