Overview

The Madrasa, a typical example of Seljuk architecture, has been opened to visitors as the "Museum of Stone and Wood Artifacts." It was built between 1258 and 1279 by Vizier Sahib Atâ Fahreddin Ali during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Izzeddin Keykavus II. Its architect was Keluk b. Abdullah. Opened as a museum in 1956, it currently exhibits stone and wood artifacts from the Beylik, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. The museum displays construction and repair inscriptions carved into stone and marble from the Seljuk and Karamanid periods, high relief sculptures from Konya Castle, door and window panels decorated with geometric and floral motifs carved from various wooden materials, examples of wooden ceiling rosettes, and tombstones and sarcophagi carved on marble. The finest examples of the double headed eagle and winged angel figures, symbols of the Seljuks whose capital was Konya, are also exhibited in this museum.
