Located between Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa, Karacadağ, with its height of 1,952 meters, is one of the most important mountains in the region and an extinct volcanic mountain. It is the main source of Diyarbakır's black basalt stones. Karacadağ is also one of the rare regions in Turkey where rice is produced, and is famous for Karacadağ Rice or Karacadağ Paddy Rice. The lava caves in the region are among the places worth exploring for nature sports and adventure enthusiasts. Karacadağ, where transhumance activities have been carried out for over a thousand years, bears the traces of the traditional nomadic lifestyle.
