Lake Çıldır is located within the borders of Ardahan and Kars provinces. It was formerly called Lake Palakatsio. With an area of 123 km², Lake Çıldır is the largest freshwater lake and the second largest overall lake in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Situated at an altitude of 1959 meters above sea level, its deepest point is 42 meters.
