The Mosque of Prophet Solomon and the Tombs of the Companions are among the most important historical and religious sites in Diyarbakır. While the exact date of the mosque's initial construction is unknown, an inscription on its minaret suggests it was built between 1155 and 1160 during the Nisanoğulları period by Kemaleddin Ebu’l Kasım Ali, who held the title of Cemalüddevle. Its architect was likely Hibetullah el Gürgani, whose name is mentioned in other Nisanoğulları era buildings in Diyarbakır. Also known as the Mosque of Prophet Solomon, Nasiriye, and Kal'a, this structure, being an important place of worship, has undergone additions and repairs throughout history. The mosque was repaired and a fountain and toilets were added by Silahdar Murtaza Pasha, who served as governor of Diyarbakır twice, between 1631-1632 and 1656-1658. In 1875, Diyarbakır Governor Ahmet Tevfik Pasha also oversaw the mosque's decoration and had the tomb restored.
