WOODEN MOLDS: These molds are usually carved from linden wood. Linden is the most commonly used wood by mold makers because it is a soft wood. The wood to be carved must be very dry and kiln dried; otherwise, when wet, the wood will lose its smoothness, deteriorate, and a clear print cannot be obtained. Pear wood and Scots pine are also used in mold making. Pear wood is a hard wood and does not wear out quickly. Although it is difficult to carve, molds made from this wood allow for printing for a longer period. Scots pine is preferred because it is water resistant, but as mentioned earlier, the most commonly used wood is linden. The art of textile printing has a 600-year history in Tokat Province. Therefore, Tokat holds a special place among the Anatolian cities where textile printing is practiced. In the past, Tokat produced some of the finest examples of this type of printing. Evliya Çelebi, speaking of Tokat's printed fabrics, praised them, saying: "The white and pink cloth is not made in the land of Lahore. It is as if it shines like gold. The printed surfaces and embroidered curtains are highly commendable." The printed fabric, known in Turkish handicrafts through terms like "çit," "yemeni," "çevre," and "çember," has served as a head covering for women for centuries. Featured in folk songs and ballads, the printed fabric is highlighted in an Almus folk song for its yellow color, while its patterns and flowers are mentioned in the lyrics of another ballad. Now, printed fabrics have entered women's wardrobes in various forms such as dresses, skirts, blouses, scarves, dressing gowns, nightgowns, and suits. Today, the diverse motifs of printed fabrics are used in various ways, in accordance with contemporary trends. The garments created by fashion designers and private workshops in some cities using printed fabric motifs are very popular in both domestic and international markets, highlighting the importance of the printed fabric art.
