The mosque, covered market, madrasa, and library sections of the complex still exist today. Various sources indicate that the complex once included a caravanserai and an imaret (soup kitchen). The Rüstempaşa Mosque, which holds the most prominent place within the Rüstempaşa Complex, was commissioned by Rüstem Paşa, son in law of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and built by the architect Sinan in 1553 on a hill overlooking the sea.
