The Selimiye Mosque is a complex built by the architect Sinan during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Selim II and located in Edirne, the former capital of the Ottoman Empire. Built by Sinan at the age of 80 and described as his "masterpiece," the Selimiye Mosque is among the most important works of both Sinan and Ottoman architecture. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000, the Selimiye Mosque and its complex were officially registered as a World Heritage Site in 2011.
