The Sheikh Mutahhar Mosque is one of Diyarbakır's historical and cultural treasures. According to the inscription on the minaret, this mosque, built in 1500 by the Akkoyunlu Sultan Kasım, takes its name from Sheikh Mutahhar, whose tomb is located on the site. One of Diyarbakır's most important structures, the mosque is built with a rectangular plan and a single dome. Its minaret, rising completely independently to the northeast of the building, is its most striking element. The minaret is one of Diyarbakır's most significant monumental structures. Popularly known as the "Four Legged Minaret," it is interpreted that each of its columns represents a different Islamic sect. Built on a single stone column with four corners, it is the only example of a four legged minaret in Anatolia.
