Construction of the mosque began in 1558 during the governorship of Sultan Selim II in Konya and was completed in 1567. It is one of the finest examples of classical Ottoman architecture in Konya. In terms of plan, it resembles the Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. The central dome covered space is extended on one side by a semi dome. The mosque, which has a seven domed last prayer hall and two minarets, is decorated with intricate penwork in its interior.
