TATLAR'S UNDERGROUND CITY

It is located on the slope of the hill called "The Fortress" in the town of Tatlarin. The church, which has two naves, two apses, and a barrel vault, has a ruined narthex. The scenes in the well preserved frescoes are separated by bands. Dark gray is used on the floor, while purple, mustard, and red colors are used in the depictions. The underground city, which was opened to visitors in 1991, suggests a military garrison or monastic complex due to the size of its spaces, the number of food storage areas, and the abundance of churches. The underground city is spread over a very large area, but only a small part of it has been cleaned. The most important feature of the underground city, of which two levels are currently accessible, is that it has toilets, which are rarely found in other underground cities.
