Overview

Adjacent to the west of the Sultan Selim Mosque, this is a very important library that still houses rare manuscripts and old script printed works, and is used for scholarly research. Yusuf Ağa had this library built while he was the Mint Master and the Steward of Mihrişah Sultan, the mother of Sultan Selim III. The building's administrator was Mehmed Sâdık. According to six inscriptions on its exterior and interior, the building was constructed on January 17, 1795 (25 Cemaziye al Akhir 1209). One of its three endowments is present in the library. The library, whose original entrance opened to the Selimiye Mosque, is now entered through a door that was originally a window. The building is constructed of Gödene stone and covered with a lead covered dome. It operates under the Konya Regional Directorate of Manuscript Works. The library contains over 3,000 manuscripts and over 8,000 printed works. All manuscript works have been digitized and made available to researchers. The library is open on weekdays.
